Air India warns users of fake website and social media accounts

With the intention of cheating innocent people, fraudsters creating fake websites and social media accounts in the name of reputed companies is quite common. Fraudsters who create these websites and social media accounts target innocent people and wipe out money from their bank accounts by collecting personal information. They contact users either by saying they would offer jobs or good discounts. A lot of people believe they are genuine and lose hard earned money.

In a similar case, Air India has alerted people to be cautious of fake social media accounts and websites; which use the airline's registered trademark promising jobs. It has also asked passengers to be aware of fake discounts on Air India flight tickets. In its twitter handle. Air India tweeted, "It has come to our notice that some miscreants are using our brand name & identity to extract confidential bank & personal details from passengers. Claiming to represent Air India, they are also demanding money in exchange for a job. We request all to exercise caution."

What has happened is some fraudsters have created a fake website using Air India brand name and identity. These websites are demanding money from people, claiming they will provide a job in Air India. With money demands, they also ask users to provide confidential bank and personal details.

Air India has requested its passengers to use their website, mobile app, or visit city booking offices or authorized agents in case of any booking related issues. It has also asked job aspirants to visit their website to check for any notified vacancies.

Air India has even advised users to send messages only to their verified social media handles. For information regarding Official Air India Channels and fake social media handles being run in the name of Air India it has asked people to visit - http://airindia.in/images/Disclaimer.jpg.

Air India  has informed people that it will not accept any liability towards the representation made in any fraudulent communication or its consequences.

How to avoid this kind of fraud?

1. No reputed companies will call or message asking for your personal details like card number, CVV, OTP and so on. You must refrain from sharing your personal details with others.

2.  No companies will ask you to deposit money for a job. So, if you are asked to deposit money for a job it is a warning sign.

3. Before transacting on any website make sure it’s genuine.
