Capturing pictures/videos of the accident scene, will serve as valid proof at the time of making a claim and it strengthens your claim. If have been injured in the accident, it helps the police file a case against the person who is responsible for the accident.
3. Know your policy well
Before making a claim, you must study the car insurance policy, throughly. Insurance plans have certain inclusions and exclusions and you must be aware of them. Some insurance policies only provide for repairs to the outer body of the vehicle. By studying the policy, you will understand how much coverage is provided.
4. Send the documents to the insurer
The insurer will not start the claim process, unless and until you send the requisite documents. So, you must ask the insurer, what documents are required and when they must be submitted. Usually, you will be asked to submit documents like motor claim form, insurance policy, Registration Certificate (RC) and driving license of the person driving at the time of the accident.
5. Do not hide facts
You must be very honest while giving information to the insurer on how, when and in what situation the accident took place. If you do not reveal all the details, it will either invalidate the policy or your claim might get rejected.
6. Follow-up with the insurance company
Claiming insurance is a very complex process as it involves a lot of people like the insurer, people injured, surveyor, car repairing company and so on. So, it is very important for you to follow up regularly, to identify at what stage your claim is in.
