According to a survey conducted by LocalCircles, in the past few years, more than 38% of consumers out of 6,923 respondents had received fake products instead of original items from online shopping sites.

Most of the time fake products are sold in the cosmetics section. A report had stated that many online shoppers had received fake products while shopping for perfumes and fragrances. You will not just lose your money if you receive fake products, but it can also have a negative impact on your health. For instance: using fake cosmetics is harmful to the skin and can lead to skin diseases.

Court Sends Notice to Amazon Over Fake Products:

The Ahmedabad Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (ACDRC), has sent a notice to e-commerce major Amazon over a complaint claiming the sale of fake products. The complaint was filed by Ahmedabad based consumer education and research center (CERC) and its chief general manager.

The complainant had purchased a pack of 2 kajal pencils of some brand from Amazon by paying Rs 247. As soon as she received the product, she observed changes in the packaging and labeling. On detailed observation, she found that the product was a fake. After raising a complaint with Amazon, she received a replacement from the concerned seller.

On pursuing the matter, the complainant insisted that Amazon warn buyers regarding fake products being sold by sellers on its platform. “Instead of doing so, Amazon sent a misleading message to the buyers offering a replacement, without admitting that the product was a fake. Such irresponsible conduct on the part of Amazon meant that consumers might continue to use the fake product, endangering their eyesight for over two years – the shelf life of the product,” said a statement issued by CERC.

The court has ordered Amazon to recall all the products sold by that particular seller and also inform buyers that it’s a fake and provide a complete refund.
