The deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar has been extended to June 30, 2018, from the earlier deadline of March 31, 2018. If you have filed your income tax return without linking PAN to Aadhaar, you have to link it before June 30, 2018, to avoid getting your ITR rejected by the Income Tax Department.
This is how you can link your PAN with Aadhaar
If you are already a registered user at the income tax e-filing website and you are filing income tax returns each year, there are chances that your PAN will be already linked to Aadhaar. If you are not sure whether the PAN has been linked with Aadhaar, you can do a check by visiting the income tax e-filing website www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
Login to the income tax e-filing website by using the login credentials such as PAN (User ID), password and your date of birth. After you log in, click on the Profile Settings tab and select the option, Link Aadhaar.
The screen will show the message, 'Your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar number XXXX1234'.
If your PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, you will be given a form where you have to provide details such as name, date of birth and gender as per PAN records. You will next be asked to provide your Aadhaar number. After providing all the required details, you must enter the captcha code appearing on the screen and click on the submit button.
Once you submit, you will receive a success message on the screen.
For non-registered users
You can link your PAN to Aadhaar, even without registering yourself with the e-filing website. You can do so by clicking on the hyperlink provided on the homepage.
You have to first click on Link Aadhaar, on the e-filing website. You will then have to provide details like Name as per Aadhaar, PAN and the Aadhaar number.
If your Aadhaar card has only the year of birth, you must select the box "I have only the year of birth in the Aadhaar card". You must then click on submit by entering the captcha code shown on the screen. After making the submission, you will receive a message on the screen saying your PAN has been successfully linked to Aadhaar.
