The risk of identity theft is on the rise as we share a lot of information online. We normally share all our information including our names, emails, phone number, address, PAN card number and so on. Under identity theft, fraudsters steal your information and use them for carrying out frauds.

In most of the cases, fraudsters use the stolen information to apply for a personal loan, two wheeler loan or a credit card with a bank. After fraudsters apply for loans and credit cards using the stolen information, the responsibility of repaying falls on the person whose information has been stolen.

In some cases, stolen information is even used to conduct social crimes. Fraudsters might use someone's name and photo to create a fake profile on social media. These profiles will be used to commit frauds.
