Fraudsters call innocent people and use various tricks to cheat them of their hard-earned money. They either ask them to provide their personal banking information or make them download remote access apps on their phone.

If you are a victim of a phone scam you must follow the below-mentioned procedures to get back the money lost.
1. Contact the bank
If you have lost money from your bank account to a phone scammer, you have to report this to the bank immediately and get your account blocked to avoid fraudulent transactions in the future. In case fraudulent transactions have taken place due to negligence, the entire loss must be borne by you until your report this to the bank. So, it is important to report the fraud as soon as possible. If any unauthorized transactions take place after reporting the fraud, you will have to bear that loss.
2. File an FIR
In case you are a victim to a phone scam, you must file an FIR at the nearest police station. Filing FIR is very important as it stands as an official record of the incident.

File a complaint with cyber crime cell
If you are a victim of a phone scam, you must file a complaint with the nearest cyber crime cell of the city where you stay. You can file a complaint at any of the cyber crime cells in India, irrespective of the place where you live. This is because cybercrime comes under the purview of global jurisdiction.
Along with the application letter, you must provide your name, email id and phone number while filing the cybercrime complaint. The letter you write must be addressed to the Head of the Cyber Crime Cell. You must provide certain documents while filing the complaint.
Here are the documents you must submit while filing a complaint against phone scam
1. Six months bank statement
2. Copy of the SMS received concerning the unauthorized transactions.
3. Copy of the ID and address proof as provided to the bank.
