A lady named Kavita received a call from fraudsters who claimed to be from KBC. She was told that her family had won the KBC lottery worth Rs 25 Lakh. The family was very happy and was waiting for the amount to get credited to the bank account. But, fraudsters told the family to deposit a certain amount of money to various bank accounts to receive the prize amount. Thinking this to be true, the family fell for the trap by depositing Rs 3.65 Lakh in the bank accounts mentioned. After the amount was deposited, the family never received the call.
To make the family believe that the lottery was being sent through the official KBC program, fraudsters sent many videos through WhatsApp. The number from which Whatsapp calls were being made to the victims were from countries like Pakistan and Kuwait. But, the money was deposited to bank accounts of different states in India.
The money paid by the family was very important to them, as Kavita's husband was suffering from a brain tumor and they needed money for his treatment.
This is not the first case; there are many cases where innocent people have lost their hard-earned money to this fraud.
