In the modern times, a washing machine has become an integral part of our day to day lives. In the midst of your busy schedule; you can't even imagine life without a washing machine. Washing machine saves a lot of time and reduces the hassle of washing clothes by hand. If you do not have a washing machine and are planning to buy a new one, these are the things which you need to consider, while making the purchase.

Tips To Buy The Best Washing Machine

1.  Decide on the size and capacity

While purchasing the washing machine, you must consider the size and capacity of the machine. This depends on your wash load. So, you must have a rough idea on the amount of laundry you wash. Usually, the capacity of the washing machine ranges from 5-10 Kgs per cycle. If you and your family consist of only 2 members, you can opt for a 6 kg washing machine. If there are many people at home, it is better to buy a washing machine with higher capacity, as it will allow you to wash less frequently. Higher capacity machines utilize more space and consume more water and power.

2.  Semi-Automatic vs Automatic

In India, there are two types of washing machines - semi-automatic and fully automatic. As the name suggests, the Semi-automatic machine is partially automatic and requires some amount of manual effort.

Semi-automatic has two tubs, one for washing and other for drying. Once the wash cycle is completed, you have to manually take out the cloths and put it in another tub for drying. In case of a fully automatic washing machine, you can put the clothes and forget about it until the washing is completed. This kind of washing machine has a cycle of washing, rinsing as well as drying.

3. Top vs Front Load

There are two types of washing machines - the front loading and the top loading styles. In India most traditional and commonly used washing machines are the top loading machines. The top-loading machine is lighter and easy to move, but it is less energy efficient as compared to the front loading ones. If you are looking for a cheaper machine, you can opt for a top loading machine. On the other hand front loading machine are quite expensive, but can fit larger quantities of laundry and consume less water.

4. The material of the Washing Tub

While purchasing a washing machine, you have to check what the washing tub of the machine is made of. It can be made of plastic, stainless steel or porcelain-enamel. Plastic and porcelain-enamel are cheap, but enamel can chip away. So, plastic tubs are considered to be better. If you want the best, you can go for stainless steel tubs as they are the most durable and can withstand high spin speeds.

5. Settings

Before purchasing a washing machine, you should check whether the machine has adequate settings for washing fabrics, starting from soft silks to hard canvas materials. Delicate materials should be washed carefully. For instance, soft linen shirts can get overstressed and tear. Similarly, dirty clothes require more rinsing, to get rid of all the dirt. So, make sure to check all the options and settings before making the purchase.
