In India, there is a lot of competition among producers and businessmen. Their main aim is to increase market share and grow their business. To do this, they attract customers with advertisements, which sometimes can be misleading or false. Advertisements have a huge influence on people. So, whenever you find any advertisement to be false or misleading, you can report it to the advertisement standards council of India (ASCI).

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), is a self-regulatory voluntary organization of the advertising Industry in India. It is a non-Government body.

ASCI handles three types of complaints:

1.  Complaints from the general public.

2.  Complaints from one advertiser against another.

3.  Suo Moto complaints from a member of the ASCI Board.

How to lodge a complaint with the ASCI?

You can lodge your complaint with the ASCI through multiple modes such as an online form, email, telephone or a mobile app. You can even send a letter to the postal address provided on the ASCI website. While lodging a complaint through any of these modes, you should mention your name, information on your profession and your contact details such as the mobile number and email address.

You should describe your complaint in detail and attach the supporting documents.  In case of an online or TV advertisement, a video clipping or a screenshot of the page, as well as the URL link, should be provided. In case of a print advertisement, a clipping of the advertisement and name and date of the newspaper or document in which it appeared, needs to be submitted.

The identity/particulars of the individual complainant, is not disclosed to the advertiser.

You are not required to pay any fees for lodging complaints.
